Brittany Wissen -- OBX

When I was small, my family and I used to camp in the Outer Banks every couple times per summer for about a week at a time. Each time we went, my twin brother would pack his PlayStation, and me my GameBoy, as we prepared to waste away our days inside the tiny cabin we rented. However, when we got there, the PlayStation was never hooked up to the power, and my GameBoy never once saw the light of day (until the car ride home, of course). I never really thought about why until lately, while speculating over everything I’m learning in this class. It seems to me that, though I didn’t know it, nature was having an effect on me. I didn’t feel the need to lock myself inside with video games because my surroundings kept my interest. The beach, especially, was most fun, watching the crabs skitter across the sand, and the subtle flash of fish jumping in the waves not far from shore. At our favorite site, there were even nature trails that I used to really love, walking looking for squirrels or pretty flowers to pick for my family and friends. I kind of miss those days.
