El Fleming, Fungi in Healthy Stems...
This article by Chapela described the life of a fungus, going from spore, to host, to ground, to growth and reproduction. The spore stage of the fungus's life, is the most dangerous. From the time that it leaves its "Mother plant" to the time that it is consumed by an animal or absorbed into the earth, it is at risk of any number of catastrophe. This is comparable to Turner's liminality.
