I and Thou vs. Image and Landscapes - Derek Bryant
Yes I can admit that I am very fond of Martin Bubers train of thought. His ideas of self and its relation to the world are put in a way that just agrees with my common sense. Yet it is interesting that he puts such a different spin on mans relation to place. In Lane and Turners books they look at the place as having a innate power that can help shape your mind and spirit. But Buber almost seems to suggest that we look at the world improperly like this. By looking at the world as holding sway to You the place becomes an It with qualities and boundaries, and if they apply to You then You becomes an It with equal qualities and boundaries. But Buber instead suggests we look at I-You in full spectrum and then must relate that You to the place and through this relation true growth can occur.
