Jessica Simpson- Wind Rock

This weekend I visited Virginia Tech University. I had been to Blacksburg before and wasn't very impressed, however I had seen photos of my friends hiking the mountains and thought that could be new and something fun and different to do while there. It was.

We decided to go to Wind Rock, it is a part of the Appalachian Trail. We all packed into a car and started our drive up the mountain. The views were stunning. I've always heard of purple mountains but I had never seen any in real life. The overlooks were breath taking and I only wish I had my camera to capture these moments and scenery. As we climbed the mountain the terrain became more and more treacherous. There were crevices in the road that no car could pass through, or so we thought. So eventually we parked the car on the side of the road determined to see the top of the mountain, we set off on foot.

Looking back we must have looked crazy, each of us dressed entirely unprepared for hiking. One wearing a short dress and flats, another in flip flops and fitted jeans, and I in a tee shirt and skinny jeans, just walking up the mountain. Along the way one of my friends decides she needs a walking stick, sporadically choosing random sticks, entirely wrong for hiking, off the side of the road. frequently they were decaying sticks and would crumble in her hand.

After a few miles we started to question whether or not we should be walking this or not. A few people had passed us by now in cars, and we saw that maybe we could have simply drove up the mountain and we were being overly cautious. But, we also decided that we had come to far to go back now. So we trekked on.

After what seemed like hours we reached the top of the trail, we passed a few boys who looked as though they might be thru hikers of the AP Trail, and sat with them at the top of Wind Rock.

There were remains of parties that college students had thrown that spread across the area, beer cans and bottles. Torn cardboard. Several fire pits.

But once you sat down on that rock that overlooked the valleys below, all stress disappeared. It was as if I were at the top of the world. I could see for miles and miles, and they trees looked strange and short. We wondered if it were because there was less oxygen at the top of the mountain?

Blacksburg is defiantly a place I would recommend visiting, and while your there look for parks and mountains because it is some of the most beautiful scenery that you'll ever take in.
