Jillian Daniel- Landscapes of the Sacred 2

In Lane's book, "Landscapes of the Sacred" the third axiom he defines states that a "sacred place can be tred upon without being entered." The emersion into a sacred place is based on one's state of consciousness. A person may cross the same path multiple times in their life, but only experience the sacrality of it if they're consciously ready for it. The axiom seperates the abilities the body and mind. Being physically present in the area means nothing unless one is open to the religious experience that may be present. This axiom makes me rethink my own state of consciousness. For the most part, I walk around entirely emmersed in thought about the events of my day, my to-do list, and other nonsense. Although I'm not a very religious person, if I were to walk to same paths with a clear head I feel that I would have more spiritual experiences. I wrote my final paper for this class on how nature can act as a healing aid, which in part focused on religion. From doing research on the subject I learned that elements found in nature have the power to completely alter one's outlook on life. This relates to Lane's axiom in the sense that if people were more observent and open to the influence of the elements found in nature, they'd be more perceptive to it's sacrality.
