Lane's Healthy Community_Emily Aquilina

In our last class we discussed Lane's idea that a healthy community is more than "merely human." We talked about the ways that one change in an ecosystem can wreck havoc on the population that lives there. This population is more than the human inhabitants of an are of course. It also includes animals as well as plant life as well. But when I read this passage for myself I felt as though Lane was also getting at the spirituality that comes with a healthy community as well.
When all of the members of a community are healthy and thriving that place gains for the people that live there. People call this place home and remember it when they leave as a piece of themselves. They may recall this place as one that made them happy and may be drawn to honor that place with a story or a song.
This is just another dimension of what a healthy community is. It should be a place that people feel safe and protected. It should be a place that they can call "home."
