Mark Dungan- Appalachian Trial

Over the past few weeks we have been learning about the AT through stories and movies. At first I thought to myself "Who would be crazy enough to want to hike from GA to Maine?" Then after watching the video of Lion King and other hikers, it began to dawn on me on what reasons one would want to do it. There are some who do it for the thrill of being out amongst nature; some who want to get away from what most people call the "real world"; and others who are doing it to earn the right to say that they have done it. I've come to realize that there is a sense of comradery when you are hiking the AT. When your out on the AT, it seems like you learn how to appreciate the simple things in life such as: running water, electricity, and beds. Some people go out on this 6 month journey to remember to appreciate those things that most other people take for granted. I don't know if I would be able to handle the 2,000 mile plus hike but after watching the videos and discussing what its like to be out on the AT, I have been thinking about trying to go out on trails around the Hampton Roads area and going for some hikes.
