Brandon Webster "Outside reading"

I recently read an article from my local newspaper back home in Richmond. It was about the city using money to renovate project apartments. If you aren't familiar with project housing, it is the lower level living areas around the world that is housed by people of misfortune, sometimes to only be used a a temporary place to stay. People were voicing their opinion on whether or not they should use the money for renovation being that it is in the city plans to knock down these projects and remodel them. They see it as a waste of money which is true if that is the case that they will remodel them. But such is not the case, I know this because I live in one of the project areas. There is no plan to renovate the apartment but there is a plan to remodel the apartments. Some people say three is no need to remodel the projects because the people around there are trouble and they don't appreciate what they have now, so what makes you think they will appreciate if they get something that looks good?? The problem is these comments have to come from someone who doesnt have first hand experience with these areas. Not everyone who occupies these places are bad. Look at me for example, Successful college student-athlete who has grew up there and still was a resident up until a week ago. Thats not the issue thought. My issue is that we have seen this before move all the residents out, remodel and make it a price that the former residents cant afford forcing them to find other places to stay. This is not right at all. All im saying some people grow attached to these places despite all the bad reputation they have. For some places like this builds character. For some when it is time to move away it is hard because there are so many memories there. Those are the things that keep people coming back to the hood, those memories.
