Fascinans & Tremendum 2--Brittany Gordon
Not only can fascinans and tremendum be applied to the Holy, but to the wilderness as well. The wilderness is beautiful, serene, and comforting. Being in nature gives us a feeling of assurance and peace; an idea that it's all going to be okay. There are stunning animals, bold colors, and thriving plants. The wilderness is a place of growth, and a place of hope. This is purely the fascinans. Accordingly, the tremendum is just as prevalent in the wilderness. Nature is harsh and unforgiving, and unaccommadating to human needs or desires. The wilderness is a pace of competition, where the strong push out the weak in order to survive. Just as God has two faces, the wilderness has two faces that must be respected and understood.
