Heather Lees - Image and Pilgrimage - Ritual

In class, we performed a ritual for Passover that would be made by people of Jewish religion. This ritual consisted of eating particular types of kosher food that would be eaten as well as saying particular prayers and following a certain tradition. A woman is required for certain parts of the tradition and the eldest male in the house is required for others. However, what I realized whilst going through this was that this was the only ritual I can remember performing in the public's eye of the "fullest extent" that was possible in my entire life. Yeah- I may celebrate Christmas or holidays like that, but I don't remember ever saying a prayer or ever performing certain required steps in order to complete something.

It was interesting to me that people truly do these things on a yearly basis, especially one that lasts an entire 7 days straight. I don't regret not ever performing particular rituals, but it was interesting for me to experience what it would be like if my family did happen to be that type of family. The whole experience of listening to what is expected to be said and seeing the different types of food that match up for this particular religion was an entirely different experience that was very interesting for me to witness.
