Heather Lees - Nature Experience (James River)

It's hard to realize the beauty of the nature that surrounds you when all you are used to seeing is cars, traffic, paved roads, and buildings. It wasn't until a few weeks ago when I was sitting on the edge of a pier near the James River that I realized how much it truly relaxes you and erases every bad feeling from your body. Last class, we were talking about how certain sounds and even images bring out particular memories. An example that was used was the beach, which included the scent as well as the sound of the waves crashing.

I was the only person sitting on the pier and there was nothing and nobody around except for myself and my guitar. At first, it almost seemed to beautifully quiet to play. There was no sound of traffic around me, no yelling, no sign of civilization anywhere. All I could hear at that moment was the water hitting against the pier and the rocks. There were some boats around, but they weren't even moving. Finally, after taking in the beautiful silence that was around me I finally came to a point where I could play my guitar. Guitar relaxes me and, even though I am not that great at it, it cleanses my mind. Combining my guitar to the area that surrounded me, I left feeling completely cleansed and almost a new person. If not a new person, I at least gained a new sense of understanding when it comes to the beauty of nature.
