Jillian Daniel - Topic of choice blog 10
Over the course of the last semester, we've talked about how important the world's landscapes are. They provide comfort, serenity, and can bring people happiness in so many different ways. Today in my biology class, I found it to be more interesting than usual. This was because the teacher bombarded the class with horrible news about an abundance of global warming facts. It was at this time that I came to the realization that global warming was legit. My teacher lecutured about how all of the floating ice in the ocean is melting at a dangerous rate. Although this will not affect the sea level (becasue the ice already occupies space in the water), it will have even worse affects. By 2013 all of the floating ice in the world will be gone, which means the land-based ice will begin to deteriorate. The land-based ice, unlike the floating ice, will cause the sea level to rise. Statistics show that if even half of Greenland melts (it's already started melting), it will cause the sea level to raise over 20ft. Consequently, places we know and love like Manhattan and Florida and various other places around the world will be submerged underwater; thus leaving millions of people without homes. Just imagine how many sacred landscapes will be lost in that submersion. Obviously the solution is to take the necessary actions against global warming so Professor Redick will continue to have a lot to talk about in class!
