Jillian Daniel - Topic of choice - blog 11
I was thinking about all of the different possible landscapes there are around the world, and then started to think about the difference between water-based landscapes and land-based landscapes. Experiences that come with being near or in an ocean are completely different then hiking on a mountain. I've been to the ocean more times than I can count and I've been hiking a decent amount of times as well. Every time I'm at the ocean I feel completely relaxed and peaceful. The sand, breeze, waves, and all of the sounds all contribute to the feeling I have when I'm surrounded in their presence. When I spend time at the beach I usually feel very content with life and I think about all of the things I have in my life that I love. When I'm hiking a mountain or in the woods, on the other hand, it's completely different. You're probably thinking that I probably just don't like "woodsy" outdoor activites, but I really don't think that's the case. I do love spending time in the woods, but it is always accompanied with a feeling of worry or stress. While in the woods, I don't really spend time pondering life like I do when I'm at the beach. I suppose this could be a personal affect that the different types of land have on me. However I feel that with land types that are so different, there must be some sort of distinct effet their elements have on human emotions and thoughts.
