Kealan Sojack- The Road

Kealan Sojack- 4/15/2010

I read a short story by Anton Chekhov called "The Black Monk." It was about a man who takes a vacation from the city to a more rural locale of Russia. He has a fantastic time reading and relaxing during the days and drinking wine and smoking cigars in the night time. He quickly comes to the realization that he is very happily slipping into insanity. He begins to have conversations with a monk dressed in black robes who he is completely aware does not exist. This story contains one of my favorite quotes I have read: (apparition to main character) "I exist in your imagination, and your imagination is part of nature, consequently I exist in nature too." This teaches us to not let our perceptions of what is "normal" hamper us from following our convictions.
