Mt. Rainier- "Mask of the Holy" Christine Ellis

The chapter on Mt. Rainier was really interesting. The “Mask of the Holy” exists to both reveal God’s presence and also to hide it. I’ve never thought about masks themselves, but as a concept I can see how this is true. In a fascinating way, the masks we wear define us. Why shouldn’t they define place? By the choice of mask someone (or something) puts on, we can see who they really are. Because of the beauty and awesome power of nature, we assume the beauty and awesome power of God, though no one has ever seen him.
