Ritual, as defined by Turner, is formal behavior prescribed for occasions not given over to technological routine that have reference to beliefs in mystical beings or powers. An example of such formal behavior is the ritual, which we mimicked in class, of Passover. These beliefs are religious and marked out by custom, through which the collective action should flow. It holds the generating source of culture and structure. Ritual, being performed in many different ways, is expressed in terms of all our senses.
