Spenser Fleming--Liminality

I had my own liminal experience lately. I ran the Shamrock Marathon and found that 26 miles is a long ways, in fact long enough to bring about a liminal experience. I found myself being physically destroyed, yet through this my mind was at peace. I run a lot and have always found going on a hour long run to be a sort of meditation. However, the marathon took me 4 hr 29 mins, so it was a very long meditation session. There was a point in the race where I realized my pain was not really at the forefront of my thoughts and quite frankly nothing was on my mind. My body had become quite peaceful, the only processes occurring were breathing and one foot after the other. I had left my busy mind at the starting line and did not plan to pick it up when I finished. That did not really happen as I had to come back to the "real" world.
