Spenser Fleming--The Mountain That Was God

In class we have discussed the reading from Lane about Mount Rainier and I found the discussion to correlate greatly with some of my outside research. Since the beginnings of stories mountains have been viewed as majestic, gods, or even gateways to heaven and hell. The five imperial mountains of China are the most sacred locations in China. The mountains themselves are viewed as gods, protectors and gateways to heaven. Most sacred is of them is supposedly where the Jade emperor comes to visit the Earth. Mountains have always taken a grip on the human imagination and to this day they bring awe to the onlookers from the mountains base. The Earth has no greater monuments.
