Brittany Wissen -- The Santiago Cathedral
The Santiago de Compostela came as a great interest to me while I was researching for my paper. The Cathedral in the city of Santiago is a beautiful thing to behold. Inside, there are the remains of St. James as well as many holy depictions of St James, and his accompanying legend James the Moorslayer. It is said that the witnessing of the Capilla Mayor, a grand statue which is elevated high above the altar and St James’s relics, is the most changing occurrence in the pilgrimage. It is the highlight of their journey. Pilgrims who take this journey are generally doing so during a time of crisis, or as a way to reconnect with their religion. Though not for religious reasons, I wouldn’t mind trying to hike this pilgrimage one day if only to see the Cathedral.
