Danielle Creel: Outside Readings Part 3

Out of the Wilderness
Thoreau wrote in the wildness is the preservation of the world. Little did he know that in the future the world would be trying to preserve what wilderness is still left. The author continues to say that the wilderness that is left look best through the lens of a photographer, who can crop the plastic bags out of the trees. One study done said that Americans are spending less and less time in the wilderness. The study however, did not consider all terrain vehicles or motorized forms of nature based recreations. The study did show that fishing, hiking, and camping numbers were down. The author suggest that society should give nature a break from us so it can heal from the destruction that we cause it.
