Heather Lees - Yahoo! News - Earth Day

Today is the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. Considering that the Environmental Movement has been active for the last 40 years, the articles talks about the success that has taken place as a result of this. It seems like over these years there has been a slight steady increase in the amount of participation that people have been giving towards the program. One thing that has not increased is the positive outlook that people had on the movement. Recently, the amount of people that see the environmental movement as a good thing has dropped a decent amount, but why? What I can't seem to wrap my brain around is the fact that as technology gets more and more popular in our everyday lives, people seem to care less and less about what is going on in the environment that surrounds them. So many people have beome unappreciative of what is considered to be natural beauty in this world. More trees are being knocked down and more buildings are being built, which seems to be resulting in people caring less and less about what had been natural throughout the earth. The only way for the Environmental Movement to succeed in something that is going to benefit the community as a whole is for people to be more supportive and begin helping in any way they can.
