Jessica Blanton: Noland Trail 2 (April 15, 2010)

I went back on the trail for my run this morning. I went around it once, making really good time, and then I jogged slowly a second time to get more of a leg workout. (It worked... I was very tired by the end) But I saw some things in the middle of the 5 mile loop that I wanted to write about.
The day we went to the Noland trail for class was my favorite lecture in my three years of college, because I was able to take a passion of mine and turn it into knowledge and experience. I saw the tree trunks that had been chopped down and wondered if they had been justifiably destroyed or if it was necessary. Had the tree already been dead, and this was a safety precaution? Or was it in the way of the trail? I thought it was interesting seeing the difference between things that had grown wildly in the trail and the flower beds and shrubberies that were placed there for aesthetic purposes. Somehow, I found the looming trees more beautiful than the cookie-cutter flower beds because they have been there for so long. I wonder what amazing things they have seen in their many years. How amazing it would be to be a tree.
