Jessica Simpson- identity

My final entry about the Landscapes of the Sacred is about communication. To quote Lane, "personal identity is fixed for us by the fell of our own bodies, the naming of the places we occupy, and the environmental objects that beset our landscape."

The trees are trees because that is what we choose to call them. Communication is crucial in our culture because it makes it possible for us to interact with one another. It is how everything intertwines within each other and is able to obtain the elements it needs to survive.

Like words, they mean nothing, they are just letters strung together and then defined by our society as language. The trees communicate with one another, and with humans by showing signs and giving signals about its health or needs. Babies do the same, they are unable to communicate with adults, so they make noises to let the people who can take care of them.
