The Ephemeral Character of Place
Sacred LandscapesIn Lane’s writing he describes how Turner tried to revisit a place and hoped to have the same experience as he did the previous time. However, upon arrival he discovered that the longer he was there the more common the place became. He was unable to capture that first experience of sacredness. Lane continues on to say that once a human gains attachment to a site the person places his /her memories to the site. Proving, that perhaps the power of memory is more important than the physicality of the site. Access to what was encountered at the site is difficult for a person to articulate because it was a first time experience.
