Kealan Sojack-snow experience

Kealan Sojack- 3/19/2010

Over this past winter break Fredericksburg received the most snow it has gotten for a long time. One day in December immediately after it had snowed I decided to take my dog out to Alum Springs Park so he could play around in it. After putting on my snowboard pants and two jackets we drove over there. After walking around for a few minutes it became apparent that we were not going to see anyone else there that day. I let him off the leash and he goes running around as fast as he can. I was a bit nervous because I had never really walked him without his leash before. He proved to be very well behaved and stayed within eyesight the entire time and returned to me if I whistled. We ran and played in the snow for just over two hours. After reading about Turner's concept of flow it is obvious that this can be applied to that experience. He talks about it being a fusion of thought and action when engaging in an enjoyable activity. Walking my dog that day was the most fun I can remember having for a long time and I was definitely experiencing flow while doing it.
